Who is this training for?

This workshop is for people working in mental health services who are in a position to champion physical health practice and deliver education within their service, including clinicians, educators, practice development staff and physical health champions.

It is particularly relevant for services that understand the importance of physical health but are looking for a practical way to translate the Equally Well Framework into workforce capability and everyday practice.

Turn Equally Well into everyday practice

Most mental health services recognise that physical health is an essential part of mental health care. The challenge is turning that commitment into everyday practice.

The Living Well Facilitator Development Workshop gives you a practical, ready-to-adapt approach for doing just that.

Developed and used within Eastern Health’s mental health services, Living Well helps mental health practitioners build physical health into their everyday work. It focuses on practical ways clinicians can have conversations about physical health, understand common physical health risks, incorporate physical health into care and treatment planning, work collaboratively with other health professionals, and identify changes that can be made within their service.

This one-day facilitator development workshop will equip you to adapt and deliver Living Well within your own service.

You’ll work with the facilitator resources and examples to develop a Living Well workshop tailored to your local context, together with an action plan for translating the learning into everyday practice.

What you’ll learn

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • explain the purpose and principles of Living Well and how it supports implementation of the Equally Well Framework
  • make the case for physical health as a core part of mental health care and advocate for change within your service
  • identify the physical health priorities most relevant to your service and workforce
  • use the Living Well facilitator guide, resources and examples to design and customise a workshop for your local context
  • plan how you will facilitate and evaluate your local Living Well workshop and support learning to translate into practice
  • meaningfully involve Lived and Living Experience workers in workshop design, delivery planning and practice integration.

Who provides the training?

The workshop is delivered by the Interprofessional Allied Health Mental Health Education Team, Practice Capability, Eastern Health Institute, together with people involved in Living Well initiatives across Eastern Health.

Living Well intentionally embeds Lived and Living Experience within education and broader workforce development. The facilitator development workshop will support you to consider how this approach can be replicated appropriately within your own service.
